URGENT CALL FOR PRAYER!

Guatemala passed in its Congress yesterday the "Ortega Law." In this law international adoptions will have new requirements. The requirements under this law are so absurd that it will be difficult for any child to come home. They require that the child's birthfamily is contacted to see if there is someone within that would like to adopt the child then they try and find a Guatemalan family to adopt the child. When this process is complete the child will be eligible for international adoption. The Guatemalan Congress does not put a timeframe on this process.....so how long will they look for the family in Guatemala? One month....2....12??? Also, currently the country of Guatemala does not fund orphanages or homes for children. We, prospective adoptive parents, pay for this care in well run orphanages and foster care. When this law takes effect it calls for children to be put in national run facilities. The Guatemalan gov't has no plan for this. Where will these literally thousands of children go? streets? prostitution? drugs? It is sad to think about and write but it is truth for thousands of these children when this process is terminated. It's tragic.....It's sin....sinful hearts of man. I also know our Lord! He is able! He is bigger than governments and this has not caught him off guard... We will trust in His hand.
I write all of this to say PRAY!!!! PRAY!!!! PRAY!!!!
The Guatemalan congress is meeting this next Tuesday, October 9, 2007 to have a final reading of the bill. They are going to make some amendments to the bill. It is our pray that they will write in a grandfather clause for families "in process" of bringing children home. (this includes us!) We also want to pray that they will grandfather in these families under the old law and not the new law! Please pray specifically for this!
